Your FAQ page might be your highest-ROI page
AI answer engines quote FAQ pages more than almost any other page type, and most sites waste theirs on filler questions.

Search behavior has split in two. Some searches still go to Google and end in a click. A growing share now end inside an AI answer (a Google AI Overview, a ChatGPT response, a Perplexity summary) with no click at all. The pages that get pulled into those answers share a pattern, and a well-built FAQ page hits that pattern almost by accident.
Why AI answer engines love FAQ pages
An answer engine is trying to solve the same problem on every query: find a self-contained chunk of text that directly answers a specific question, without requiring the reader to piece it together from three paragraphs of context. A blog post buries the answer inside a narrative. A FAQ entry states the question, then answers it in two or three sentences, fully self-contained. That shape is exactly what gets lifted into an AI-generated answer and cited back to the source.
The three-part structure that gets cited
The FAQ entries that actually get pulled into answers share three things: the question is phrased the way a person actually asks it (not the way a marketer would title a section), the answer starts with the direct answer in the first sentence rather than building up to it, and the answer includes one concrete, specific detail (a number, a timeframe, a name) rather than staying generic. "We respond within 48 hours" gets cited. "We prioritize fast communication" doesn't.
What most FAQ pages get wrong
Most FAQ pages are an afterthought: a handful of questions nobody actually asks, written to fill space near the bottom of a page, answered in vague marketing language. That's invisible to both searchers and answer engines. The fix isn't more questions: it's the right questions. Pull the actual questions your sales team gets asked on every call, answer each one the way you'd answer it out loud, and cut anything that doesn't map to a real question a real prospect has asked.
FAQPage schema: the one-line addition most sites skip
Writing good FAQ content gets you most of the way there; marking it up with FAQPage structured data (schema.org) is what makes the question-and-answer pairs machine-readable rather than something an AI system has to infer from page layout. It's a small, one-time addition to the page's code, and it's one of the more reliable, lowest-effort levers available for AI-search visibility right now.
For the ranking side of this equation, see our piece on why ranking #1 on Google doesn't guarantee AI-search visibility. Our SEO & AEO services page covers how we structure content and schema for both search surfaces.
